Homemade shampoo

Good morning world.  I was just looking at my weekly chores for today.  Menu planning, deep clean the bathroom and kitchen.  Bathroom will be a snap.  Swishing and swiping makes the deep cleaning fairly easy task.  The kitchen will definitely need a deep cleaning.  That room is first!

Yesterday, I had decided to try yet once again to use the shampoo I had made. Going from store bought shampoo to homemade shampoo is not easy, at least for me.  I am one of those girls who has a transition period of time.  Hopefully, the time will not be too long.  Shampoo is a detergent which strips hair of oils, natural oils.  When we go no shampoo or homemade, our scalp has a time of over producing oils as it does when we use shampoo and go a couple of days without washing.  Yuck.  From what I have read, this does not happen to everyone.

When I first tried the homemade shampoo, it was yucky then.  I washed it in shampoo that first day.  This time, I am determined to get past the yuck stage.  Today is day 2. It does not seem quite as yucky as yesterday.  And still smells good.  Might be able to do this after all.  Here is the recipe:

Homemade Shampoo

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup liquid castile soap
  • 1/4 cup canned cocoanut milk, (tip: freeze the rest of the contents of the can in cubes using an ice cube tray so you can use it for future recipes.)
  • 1/4 cup honey, (I used raw honey)
  • 1 tbsp. Vitamin E oil
  • 20 - 40 drops essential oils
Mix all ingredients in a bottle (I used a jar).  Shake up before each use as it separates some.

Here is some ideas about which essential oils to use.

20 drops peppermint essential oil & 20 drops lavender essential oil
15 drops lavender essential oil, 25 drops lemongrass essential oil & 10 drops lemon essential oil
Will help with dandruff; 10 drops each lemon, lavender, melaleuca and rosemary essential oils
Will help with hair loss; 10 drops each rosemary, peppermint, cedarwood and lavender essential oils

How many of you either have gone no poo, or make your own shampoo?

Be blessed and be a blessing,

Just some of my thoughts and actions,

Elizabeth
