A lot has happened this past week. I planned on starting this blog on Tuesday, my first day of learning to milk, cows not goats nor hamsters. I have never really milked before, not since visiting a German dairy when I was 12 living in Zweibrucken. Got to stay at a dairy for 2 weeks one summer. Learned how to milk a cow by hand that couldn't be milked by machine. Very cool for a city girl.
A friend of my hubby's needed to get rid of a kid who wasn't working out for him, for many reasons. I decided I could learn how to milk and have a job that I can do for a couple of hours each day, still home school the boys and make a little extra money.
Tuesday before I even got going, my little red car wouldn't start. Nor could I get it to roll to push start it. I took the truck after asking my hubby to get it started and bring it to me on his way to work. I showed up at the milk barn and milked with Josh, my new boss. I'm so slow at this. They keep telling me that I'll pick up the pace. It took me about 5 hours to do the milking and cleaning up. Still haven't done the rest of the chores. Feeding the cows and I'm not sure what else. Breaking the ice on the water tanks, I think. On some days I think I'm suppose to feed the calves.
So this has absorbed my life for the past almost 5 days. Been at the barn in the mornings and nights for each milking. I have even dreamed about milking. I come home from the morning milkings and sleep for 3 to 4 hours. Just to get up to go back to the barn again. I'm suppose to be milking in the mornings. Hopefully by Monday I'll get the hang of it better, so I can get school started for the new year for the boys.
I'll be posting how things go with milking and my life in general, both past and present.
